What is a Dobro?
A Dobro is an acoustic guitar with a built-in metal resonator. This resonator acts as amplification. In contrast to acoustic guitars, the sound hole is replaced by the location of the resonator. Because of this, the Dobro's sound is amplified in a manner independent of the guitar's shape.

The first resonator guitar was created by John Dopyera in 1928, and it was first produced by the National String Instrument Corporation, which Dopyera and George Beauchamp owned. In 1929, Dopyera and his brothers established the Dobro Corporation after quitting that business. Dopyera had to redesign his resonator due to patent problems; this time, he gave it the name "Dobro."
