Slide Guitar Player in Nashville like Derek Trucks and Duane Allman
Jon is a slide guitarist who also play lap steel. He is very influenced by the sounds of Derek Trucks and Duane Allman in the slide guitar world. Jon finds himself mostly playing humbucker type guitars for slide guitar like Gibson- Les Paul and Sg. He loves playing the Boneyard Dunlop Joe Perry slide. This video was done on a northern California run with Megan T. Smith. Jon is a very accomplished side player who plays the following slide instruments- lap steel, dobro, pedal steel, and slide guitar. Not only is he a slide player but he is also a utility musician who plays guitar, keys, mandolin, banjo, and a few other things. Jon also sings background vocals in the groups that he plays with. He has an extensive history with singing in show choirs and backing up lead singers. In college, Jon toured with a professional show choir called "Spirit" which cut an album and toured throughout Texas. He is a baritone/ bass singer but can sing some tenor 2 harmony parts. For slide playing, Jon has found that heavier slides are generally better since they tend to make a more even tuning. For slide guitar he uses a boneyard dunlop. For Pedal Steel, a BJS 7/8th and for dobro/ lap steel he uses a Shreehorn slide. It is important to have the appropriate slide so that the notes are even.
